King of Fried Rice Review (Sengkang Square)
King of Fried Rice at Sengkang Square is located at the hawker centre opposite Compass One. The hawker centre is operated by Kopitiam. We have noticed this stall since its opening in 2020 but did not patronise it as there were always a long queue at its stall. On one occasion in August 2021, we saw there was no queue and went ahead to try its much talked about Egg Fried Rice with Pork Cutlet ($6.50).
After making our order, it took about 10 minutes for our number to be called. While the appearance of the fried rice was humble, the pork cutlet was juicy and well seasoned. The egg fried rice was fragrant but similar to one would get at any tze-char stall nearby. Its chili condiment was unique though: flaky, spicy and savory.
At a price of $6.50 at a hawker centre, we find its price on the high side. A few stalls on the right of KOFR’s stall is a western stall that sells a much larger pork cutlet at $6.50. While its taste was above average, it will not get us in any queue just to savor this fried rice. Their service was typical of any hawker and the environment was hot (which didn’t help their fried rice that was on the oily side).
In all. we give its egg fried rice’s quality a 3.5/5, value-for-money a 3/5 and service a 3/5.
