The Reunion Dinner (团圆饭 or 年夜饭) is one of the most significant traditions of Chinese New Year (CNY). It is held on the eve of the Lunar New Year, bringing families together to welcome the year ahead. In 2026, the Reunion Dinner falls on 16 February 2026 (Monday).
More than a celebratory feast, the Reunion Dinner is a deeply meaningful occasion. It marks a time for family members to reunite, especially those who live or work abroad, to reconnect, share joyful moments and renew family bonds. This tradition embodies unity, love and happiness, highlighting the enduring importance of togetherness during this special time of the year.
Where to go for Reunion Dinner for Chinese New Year 2026 in Singapore?
In the 1980s and 1990s, Reunion Dinners were traditionally held in the home of the eldest family member, where the entire family would gather to prepare the festive feast together.
Over time, however, longer working hours and changing lifestyles led more Singaporeans to dine out. As a result, fewer members of the younger generation inherited their grandparents’ treasured recipes and cooking traditions.
