When is Chinese New Year Reunion Dinner in 2024?
The Reunion Dinner (团圆饭 or 年夜饭) is one of the key traditions of the Chinese New Year. The dinner is held on the eve of the lunar new year. In 2024, it falls on 9 February 2024.
More than just having a feast to usher in the new year, the reunion dinner gathers all family members, especially those who are abroad for study or work, to celebrate and to catch up with one another. This tradition signifies togetherness, bond, and bliss.
Where to go for Reunion Dinner for Chinese New Year 2024 in Singapore?
In the 80s and 90s, Reunion Dinners were mostly held at the elder’s house and the feast was prepared together by the family.
As more Singaporeans opt to eat out due to long hours at work, few Singaporeans inherit their grandparents’ secret recipes and cooking techniques. From the 90s onward, families started to have their Reunion Dinners at restaurants for convenience.
