What are Child LifeSG Credits and NS LifeSG Credits, and who is eligible to receive them?
Child LifeSG Credit
As part of Budget 2025, the Child LifeSG credits provide a one-off support to help Singaporean families with children manage household expenses.
Every Singapore Citizen child aged 0 to 12 years old in 2025 is eligible. The credits will be disbursed to the parent registered as the trustee of the child’s Child Development Account (CDA) starting from 7 July 2025. An SMS notification will be sent to the parent once their LifeSG wallet has been credited.
The usage is the same as the NS LifeSG credits given to NSFs and NSmen in 2024. These credits can be spent at the same participating merchants and are valid for one year from the date of disbursement.

NS LifeSG Credit
The NS LifeSG credits are a token of appreciation for the contributions of past and present NS servicemen to Singapore’s defence and security. They were first introduced in 2022 as part of the “NS55 Recognition Package” and formerly known as “NS55 credits”.
In 2024, the government announced that all full-time national servicemen (NSFs) and NSmen, both past and present, from the SAF and Home Team will receive S$200 in LifeSG credits.
These credits can be used at participating merchants and will be disbursed via the LifeSG app. Eligible recipients will be notified progressively via SMS and mail, and all credits will be credited to individual accounts by 30 November 2024.
The credits are valid for one year from the date of disbursement.

How to convert LifeSG credits into cash?
Since the credits were disbursed to recipients’ LifeSG accounts, many have wasted no time putting them to use.
While some are redeeming their credits at restaurants and supermarkets, tech-savvy users have discovered a clever workaround by converting the digital credits into cash via Sheng Siong Supermarket’s $TM machines (the chain’s proprietary ATMs that dispense cash).
These $TM machines are located at almost all of Sheng Siong’s outlets (marked “with $TM Service) where one can withdraw cash using DBS/POSB/OCBC/UOB ATM card, PayNow or Singtel Dash, albeit with a S$0.20 service fee.
Since LifeSG credits are redeemed by scanning a participating merchant’s PayNow QR code via the LifeSG app, you can use the same method to withdraw cash by scanning the PayNow QR code at Sheng Siong’s $TM machines.

When the first NS55 LifeSG credits were introduced in 2022, many users took advantage of a workaround to convert their credits into cash. Some expressed concerns about whether this was allowed.
On 9 July 2022, MINDEF clarified to Channel News Asia that national servicemen have the freedom to use their credits as they see fit. MINDEF stated, “National servicemen are free to decide how they would like to use the credits“, confirming that encashing or spending the credits is entirely at the servicemen’s discretion. This policy also applies to the current NS LifeSG credits and Child LifeSG credits.
Great news! If you were hesitant to convert your credits to cash for fear of breaking any rules or regulations, you’re now free to do so!
Steps to withdrawal LifeSG credits at Sheng Siong's ATM
- Locate a Sheng Siong’s Simple Teller Machine ($TM)
- Tap on “PayNow” option
- Select “Other Amount”
- Enter the value of the withdrawal
- (NS LifeSG Credits) Enter “190” and tap “With Receipt”. Due to a S$0.20 service fee for withdrawals and a minimum denomination of S$10, the maximum amount you can withdraw from your NS LifeSG credits is S$190.
- (Child LifeSG Credits) Enter “490” and tap “With Receipt”. Due to a S$0.20 service fee for withdrawals and a minimum denomination of S$10, the maximum amount you can withdraw from your Child LifeSG credits is S$490.
- Open your LifeSG app, under “Your Benefits” section, tap
- “NS LifeSG Credits” card
- “Child LifeSG Credits” card
- Scroll down to tap on “Scan QR code to Pay” button.
- Use your phone to scan the QR code on Sheng Siong’s $TM screen.
- Wait for your cash to be dispensed. Be patient, it may take some time.
- Retrieve your receipt.
- Check your NS LifeSG credit balance in the LifeSG app. You should have S$9.80 left to use on other participating merchants.
Congrats on receiving your cash!
Full LifeSG credits withdrawal
In addition to cash withdrawals at Sheng Siong, you can withdrawal the full LifeSG credits via YouTrip, a third-party commercial travel wallet app.
However, please note that this process involves several additional steps, including creating a YouTrip account, using SingPass for MyInfo retrieval and submission, and linking a Mobile Number or NRIC-associated PayNow account for the bank transfer.
Once registered, you can top up your YouTrip wallet with your LifeSG credits and then transfer the entire amount to your bank account.
While this option may not be suitable for everyone, it can be a convenient choice for those who are comfortable with digital tools.
