Old Chang Kee Cafe Review (SingPost Centre)

Old Chang Kee Café at SingPost Centre is located on Level 1 of the building’s shopping atrium. The restaurant is a popular dining venue in the area due to its convenient location and affordable pricing. We visited their store on a Saturday afternoon at around 4pm, and there were only a few diners in the outlet. Though we were repeat patrons of the café, we went on to check on their menu before making our order. We ordered a Curry Chicken Set with Kopi-O ($6.30) and a Dry Curry Chicken Set with Teh ($6.30), paid for the order and were subsequently given a queue buzzer.

We then sat down in the dining area to wait for our food. It took about 10 minutes before we were paged to collect the food from the collection point. While the dishes were presented and plated nicely, we noticed their quantity were on the smaller side, especially for the Dry Curry Chicken.

After taking a couple of bites off our dinner, we pretty much came to a conclusion on the review of the dishes. The taste of the Curry Chicken was typical of Singaporean Curry but served with hot fluffy white rice and well-marinated crunchy Nonya Achar. The aroma of the curry was strong, potatoes were soft, and its gravy was not oily at all. Their Dry Curry Chicken was a unique rendition of curry and it tasted more like rendang but without any gravy. Its taste was fine but nothing to shout about. Both of us prefer the Curry Chicken over the Dry Curry Chicken. As for their Kopi-O and Teh, they were a little diluted compared to those from chains like Ya Kun and Toastbox.

In all, we had a good dinner but there is nothing outstanding. For their price of $6.30 for a meal, we find it a little expensive given its small portion. Their dining environment was good and conducive for chats among friends and associates. We give the quality of its food a 3.5/5, its value-for-money a 3.5/5, its dining environment a 4/5 and its service a 3.5/5.
