Nightshift Bistro & Bar Review

Nightshift Bistro & Bar is located on the ground floor of Burlington Square, a mixed development with retail shops, offices and condominium apartments. The bistro has a frontage directly facing the popular electronics mall, Sim Lim Square. It has a fully outdoor seating capacity of around 20 people.

We visited Nightshift Bistro on a Sunday afternoon at 12pm, the time they start operating. We paced up and down the walkway in front of their store a couple of times before a friendly lady who was sitting in the dining area came over to us. After affirming with her that they are ready to take orders and were accepting The Entertainer’s 2-for-1 offer (buy one get one free), we were given the free choice of seats and their menu to browse through. As we were there for lunch, we set our eyes on those few items that could fill our stomachs.

We made up our minds relatively quickly and ordered a Chicken Chop ($11.00) and a Beer Battered Fish & Chips ($11.00). While waiting, we were entertained by the music played in the background as well as people who were strolling on the pathway between the bistro and Sim Lim Square. After waiting for about 10 minutes, the dishes were served.

Both the Chicken Chop and Fish & Chips looked very appetizing with a good mix of sides – French fries and greens. The chicken was served with black pepper sauce while the fish fillet with tartar sauce. Their presentations alone already outperform those from hawker centres and food courts, though we were only paying $11.00 for both dishes with our 2-for-1 offer.

After a few bites of both mains and the accompanying sides, we arrived at a verdict of the food quality – excellence. The Chicken Chop was succulent and paired well with the black pepper sauce. The Beer Battered Fish was crispy on the outside while preserving the fillet tenderness on the inside. As both mains are fried items, having a few bites of the garden salad that is drizzled with balsamic sauce in between reduces the feeling of oiliness and clears the palette for more bites of the meats.

In all, we were very happy with our lunch at the bistro. For the price, food quantity and quality, service as well as the location and environment, we feel that we underpaid for what we have received. Even if they were to charge at their regular price for these two dishes, we think they are still reasonably priced.

We give their food quality a rating of 4.5/5, value-for-money a 5/5 (given we had a 2-for-1 offer from The Entertainer App), service a 3.8/5, and environment 4/5. We highly recommend anyone looking for a good Western food in the Bugis area to dine at this restaurant.
