Gin Khao Thai Restaurant Locations
Gin Khao Thai Restaurant is a brand of Micro Group Holdings that operates other brands like Kwan Inn Vegetarian, Som Tam Express, Taste Bud and Hoe Nam (River South) Prawn Noodles.
While the Thai restaurant serves mainly Thai dishes in its 4 outlets, there are variations in menu in each of the outlets, ranging from high-end bistro with luxurious waterfront views to affordable staples in a coffeeshop. At Gin Khao SAFRA Tampines that we visited, it offers a fusion of Thai and Chinese cuisine (or more accurately Singapore Zi-char) that caters to the general crowd in the neighbourhood.

Gin Khao Thai Restaurant (Safra Tampines)
Gin Khao SAFRA Tampines is located on Level 1 of SAFRA Tampines, next to the reception. For our visit, we made a reservation for a late lunch at 2:30pm on a weekday via Eatigo with 50% discount. We arrived on time and were surprised to find their staff standing at the entrance waiting for us. As we approached the staff, we were ushered in and given the option to sit anywhere we like as there were no other patrons in the restaurant.
The interior of the restaurant was spacious, modern and nicely decorated with Thai-infused statues and paintings. There were seats facing the pool but we opted for the table right in the middle of the restaurant. After we got seated, we started browsing through their menu. While we were still browsing, the server came back to us an offered us two complimentary glasses of warm water. We felt that was a very nice gesture that we seldom experience in a non-hotel restaurant.
After a couple of minutes more, we ordered a Crispy Noodles with Superior Sauce with Pork ($6.50), a Pineapple Fried Rice ($8.30) that comes with a Pork Cutlet, and a Hai Jeong Chicken Wings ($9.50) to share.
Our order arrived in about 10 minutes after we placed our order. From the looks of the dishes, they looked very much like Singapore Chinese dishes that we usually have at zichar. We proceeded with our taste and the verdict was the same.
Two aspects that we feel a tinge of Thai-ness is with the Hai Jeong Gai where lemongrass was used in marinating the wings, and the Pineapple Fried Rice which is a very Thai dish. While the dishes did not look or taste like those we had in Singapore and Thailand, their taste were slightly above average compared to other zichar we have had.
Based on our experience dining at the restaurant, we would give Gin Khao SAFRA Tampines an overall rating of 3.8/5. For the breakdown, we rate their food quality a 3.5/5, their value-for-money a 4/5 with 50% discount, the staff service a 5/5, and the dining environment a 4/5.
