Veggie House Review
This vegetarian restaurant is located in Hougang Green, a neighbourhood mall near to Buangkok MRT. Given its location and accessibility, its customers are residents in the area or at most those from Sengkang or Kovan.
The décor of the restaurant is rather modest with free seating tables and stools. There is no obvious branding, at least we did not notice any signage at the entrance, nor it there a fanciful environment to dine in. We call it a restaurant just because it is a standalone shop.
While there were not many customers on our visit, we noticed there were 4-5 deliverymen waiting for their orders. There were three staffs but it appears they were not coordinated and there was no proper segregation of duties. We waited for 10 minutes at the counter before one of them attended to us. It took another 20 minutes for the food to be ready.
We ordered their Signature Laksa ($5.90) and special menu item Curry Fish Rice set ($6.50). While the price is affordable, it is a tad higher than the coffeeshops at the adjacent blocks. Their small portions did not help as well to justify the price either. Both the Laksa and Curry had very little ingredients, and for the “Veg” in the rice set, there were only 2 stalks.
Taste wise, we acknowledge the two dishes were above average, but nothing exceptional. A thoughtful thing was that they separated the noodles from the gravy for the Signature Laksa for our takeaway. At least the texture of the noodles was nice after we reach home.
In summary, we give a 3 out of 5 for Veggie House. The service and quantity of food needs to be improved to be in tandem to the price it is charging (compared to other stalls in the neighbourhood).
