Segar Restaurant is part of a group of brands offering Singaporean Chinese Zichar (or Tze Char). Other brands include A-Poh Kitchen and West Co’z Cafe, which serve an almost identical menu. Their Curry Fish Head is the most popular dish among a group of diners as one serving is enough to be shared among 3 to 4 people. Its affordable Rice and Noodles menu items are staples that office workers in the vicinity would order for lunch or dinner.

Segar Restaurant Review (Chinatown Point)
Segar Restaurant at Chinatown Point is located on Basement 2 of the shopping mall. This floor is pretty quiet most of the time, unlike Basement 1 that is connected to the Chinatown MRT station and Level 1 that connects to the Chinatown walking street. As such, Segar Restaurant is popular among the office crowd who yearn for a little peace while having lunch on weekdays (we are one of them).
For this review, we visited them at around 12:30pm on a Wednesday. The restaurant that could sit 40-50 people was about 70% full at that time. As we entered the restaurant, we were promptly ushered in by a male waiter. Though we were handed the physical menu that comprises of 2 laminated sheets of A4 paper, we noticed there was a QR code on the table that offers 10% off for orders made through the phone. We scanned the code and ordered a Chicken Hor Fun ($5.50) and a Chicken Fried Rice ($5.50) through the mobile website. The process was smooth and the dishes were served in around 10 minutes.
The portions of both dishes were huge and definitely worth the money if one is looking purely at quantity. The Hor Fun looked fine as we can still see chunks of chicken with a few leaves of greens, but the fried rice appeared to comprise of just rice with tiny bits of egg and chicken. After digging into the food, we realized a significant drop in standard in taste since our last visit before the pandemic. The Hor Fun was bland and tasteless, while the Fried Rice tasted only of soy sauce and lacks any fragrance or smokiness typical of fried rice at hawker centre or food courts. Though they were still edible, the taste was a disappointment.
All in all, we had a pretty full but not really a fulfilling lunch. We did not try their Curry Fish Head this time but hope they retained the standards of their signature dish. Based on our experience of this visit, we give their food quality a 3/5, their value-for-money 3.5/5, their service a 3.5/5, and the restaurant environment a 4/5.
